LEARNING COMMONS NEWS

Hurray! The Book Fair is back. It’s time once again to check out some of the latest titles, enter the contests and see what’s new in the Learning Commons. The Fair will be held April 15th to 19th so mark your calendars.
The Natural Disasters Readers Club has been a great success. Our books have been sent to the printers and we are looking forward to sharing our T-Shirt designs and a video of our activities at an upcoming school assembly.
Students in Division 7 have made Anti-Smoking Commercials. Check out the great student creations using the Animator App. at http://georgesvanierlibrary.edublogs.org/

HANGING BASKET AND PLANT SALE

Back by popular demand, we will again doing a hanging basket and plant sale. You will recall that year that the quality of the plants was very high and the sale was a great fundraiser for our PAC.  Important dates to note:

April 15 – Order forms sent home with students
April 26 – Orders Due
May 9 – Order Pick up at 2:00 p.m.

We know a lot about how babies learn to talk, and youngsters learn to read. Now scientists are unraveling the earliest building blocks of math – and what children know about numbers as they begin first grade seems to play a big role in how well they do everyday calculations later on.

The findings have specialists considering steps that parents might take to spur math abilities, just like they do to try to raise a good reader.

This isn’t only about trying to improve the nation’s math scores and attract kids to become engineers. It’s far more basic.
