IN THIS ISSUE:
Principal / Vice Principal’s Message

Hello Georges Vanier Community!

It has been wonderful to become acquainted with students and family members this week.  I greatly appreciated the warm welcome that I have received from everyone at GV!    …Mr. Dekerf

Monday Classes

During the past week, students have spent time becoming acquainted and moving through smaller grade group rotations.  Teachers have been observing dynamics and and completing informal assessments so that they can place students into balanced classes.  It is our hope that by the end of the day on Monday, students will settle into their final classes for the school year.  Thanks for supporting our decision making and allowing your child time to adjust to their new classroom setting.   If you have questions or concerns about your child’s placement, please make an appointment at the office to meet with Mr. Dekerf.

Learning Commons

The Vanier Learning Commons is getting ready for a wonderful year of discovery and exploration. Our theme this year is Medieval Madness and Fairytales.

And for all the Muggles, our first intermediate contest of the school year is Wild About Harry.

Contest closes October 6th so get your ballots in. The next contest will be for grades 2 and 3 and, here’s a hint, it will be about a famous mouse (and it’s not Mickey).

Book circulation will begin on October 6th. Many students still have books at home from last year. Please return those at any time so that you can take out some of our great new titles. If books appear to be lost please let me know.

Remember to follow student tweets on Twitter @VanierLC and check out the latest Learning Commons news @crosland_a The Vanier LC Blog hosts videos, student blogs and updates so check us out @  http://georgesvanierlibrary.edublogs.org

Terry Fox Run

Our run will take place this Friday, Oct. 3 @ 1:00 p.m.  Students are invited to bring “Toonies for Terry” in support of cancer research.  An information notice will come home early in the week and parent volunteers are greatly appreciated.

School District Sports Seasons

Due to our late start to the school year, the Surrey District has cancelled the Cross Country running and Soccer seasons.

Multi-aged / Combined / Split Classes

As in past years we have a number of combined grade classes at Georges Vanier.  We have some research information to share with you on this topic.  Combined_Multiage_Vol3
