News from the Learning Commons

This week in the Learning Commons, students showed their ideas about the Surrey Schools Picture Book of the Year nominations. They used Chalkboard and Hello Crayon Apps. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 practised exporting their creations to the camera roll and uploading to DropBox. Brilliant!

Digital Citizenship
We  have been incorporating discussions about Digital Citizenship into our lessons in the Learning Commons. Digital Citizenship is the ability to use technology in an appropriate, productive and responsible way. There is lots of  very detailed information available. Our school wanted to create an ‘umbrella’ statement that would incorporate many facets of learning to use technology effectively. We are using the language ‘Digital Citizenship: There’s an APP for that’. Here’s the mini poster we will be hanging in every classroom.

New Student Registration

The Surrey School District is pleased to welcome all new students to our schools.  In-person registration is required at the neighbourhood school or school of choice if space is available (see “Out of catchment registration” below).

The following documents are required at the school when registering:

1. proof of birth date for the student (birth certificate or passport);

2. proof of guardianship (for parents or guardians as shown on child’s birth certificate or other appropriate legal documentation such as landed immigrant document or guardianship order);

3. proof of citizenship for both the parent and the student (Canadian birth certificate, citizenship card, passport, landed immigrant document, permanent resident card, enhanced driver’s licence or enhanced identification card);

4. proof of residency (purchase or rental agreement, cable, hydro or gas bill etc.).

The school district recognizes that personal circumstances may make it difficult for some individuals to complete the registration process.   Please discuss any unique circumstances with the school principal when registering.

We welcome all new students and we are pleased to assist in any way we can.  If you have further questions, please contact Georges Vanier (604-596-1030), or the school district at (604) 596-7733.
