Bear Creek Park Track Meet
This week we were lucky enough to participate in the Bear Creek Track meet. We had 41 students participating from Grade 3-7 and they represented our school with enthusiasm and pride! The weather held out, the students represented Georges Vanier in a variety of events from high jump, and shot put to running events like the 200-meter and 4×100.
For many of our students this was their first track meet and they were nervous but whether they were there for the first time or had been in years past, they all tried their best and had a lot of fun!
A huge thank you to our track coaches, Ms. Tracey, Ms. McIntosh, Ms. Silversides, Mr. Dhaliwal, Mrs. Peaker and Mr. White for all their time and effort to get our kids ready for the big day! Also, a big thank you to Mr. Sharia for volunteering and all our wonderful parents who drove, cheered and supported our kids. Great job, Georges Vanier!
Dance Assembly – Join Us
Looking ahead, we have our school Dance Assembly which will highlight all the great work that our students have done over the past week during our dance sessions. Parents and family are welcome to join us for the assembly on Wednesday, June 10th at 1:40pm!
Welcome to Kindergarten
We also had “Welcome to K” this week and what a lovely event that was! We were able to see all of the excited preschoolers coming into the building, many for the first time. Here is a note from Ms. Pulvers, our Early Literacy Teacher about the event:
On Thursday June 4th, 50 “bright eyed and eager” new Kindergarteners and their parents attended to Welcome to Kindergarten. Highlights included making name tags using stickers, matchimg magnetic letters, building towers, meeting new friends and the take home back of “goodies” to prepare students for Kindergarten.
It was a wonderful, and busy, morning where teachers were able to meet these new students and connect with their families. We are super excited to have these students as part of our community next year. If your child is born in 2010 and has not yet registered for Kindergarten, please do so at the office at your earliest convenience.
Sports Day – June 12th
Sports Day is Friday, June 12th! Students will be participating in various activities and stations in the morning followed by the exciting tradition of races and tug-of-war in the afternoon. We will hope that this lovely sunny weather continues, but Sports Day will happen rain or shine, so make sure students are dressed appropriately.
Lost and Found
Items from the lost and found will be on display in the hallway this week. Please check to see if any items belong to your child. Unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity.
This week in the Learning Commons we have been focusing on a review of internet safety. Digital Citizenship is built into our everyday use of the internet but this week we discussed safety again specifically. Here are three short videos we used to keep the discussion rolling and to help students recognize the importance of always being vigilant on-line.
