Principal / Vice Principal’s Message

All of our students are now settled into their classrooms for the year.  We thank you for your work in helping to transition children into class with new peers, teachers, routines and structures.  Your positive support is always greatly appreciated.

Parental involvement is vital to a student’s success in school.

Students whose parents are actively supportive throughout the school year often have better grades, fewer learning gaps and higher self‐esteem. When parents are involved, students frequently excel.

Fall Individual Photos – this Tuesday!

Meet The Teacher

All families are invited to come to the school from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening to tour your child’s classroom and be introduced to our staff.   This will be a brief introduction to the classroom setting and not a time for a student progress update.  We look forward to seeing many of our families on Thursday, Sept. 24th!

Room Parents

We are hoping that each division in our school will have one or two room parent volunteers this year.   These parents will help support classroom and PAC communication.   A room parent may collect contact information from parents in the class and use this list to pass on information or seek requests for help.  i.e. the class may need more drivers for a field trip or helpers for a special art activity.   Please see your classroom teacher if you are able to take on this important role.  Room parent sign-up sheets will be found in each classroom on Thursday evening.

School Planners

We encourage all students in Grades 1-7 to purchase a School Planner at a cost of $5.00. Please send cash or cheque (payable to Georges Vanier Elementary) to school as soon as possible, or inform the teacher if you are unable to pay due to financial constraints.

Terry Fox Run This Friday!

Our GV run will take place this Friday, Sept. 25 @ 1:00 p.m.   Student leaders will visit classes each morning this week to collect “Toonies for Terry” in support of cancer research.

Parent volunteers are asked to complete and return the bottom of the Terry Fox notice that went home last week.  Volunteers can meet at the school office at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.   Thank you for your support!

TOGETHER WE ARE A MASTERPIECE.

This week we celebrated September by recognizing that “Each of Us is a Work of Art. Together We Are a Masterpiece.” We talked about how we all contribute to the learning community at Vanier and how each one of us makes valuable contributions.
