Principal / Vice Principal’s Message

At our recent Professional Day last Monday, teachers spent time learning more about BC Curriculum changes and Communicating Student Learning.

Curriculum Redesign

British Columbia’s curriculum is being redesigned to respond to the demanding world our students are entering.  Transformation in curriculum will help teachers create learning environments that are both engaging and personalized for students. At the heart of British Columbia’s redesigned curriculum are core competencies, essential learning and literacy and numeracy foundations.

Core Competencies:

  • Communication
  • Thinking
  • Personal and Social

GV Polling Station

On Oct 19th, our school will be a federal election polling station from 6:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.

3D PRINTING TO ENHANCE STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY AND BUILD COMMUNITY

The arrival of the 3D Printer in late June sparked a lot of excitement amongst the students at Georges Vanier Elementary. Just as our digital tools are used to create rather than consume, I encouraged my students to think about how we might design and print items that were useful, that had a purpose. Items had to have the power to enhance or improve or function as a tool to show learning.

Diwali Student Presentations

Students who are interested in being involved in Diwali presentations are invited to meeting this week at lunch time in the gym.  We are looking for dancers, rangoli artists, public speakers, and more!   Our assembly will take place on Oct. 20th.
