Free Store at GV!
Heather Thomas is our wonderful Outreach Worker at GV! Plans are in the works to host a Free Store in the gym in December for all the families and staff members of the Georges Vanier community. It will be a unique opportunity to connect with those in our community while purging some of the things taking up room in our houses. And with the holiday season fast approaching, it’s a perfect time to get rid of old toys no longer in use, so that others might give them a new life! Anything left over at the end of the day will be donated to a local charity.
If you have any items you’d like to contribute to the Free Store, or if you’d like to lend a hand on the day of, please contact Heather. We hope this trial run will be a success and we can try this again the future. Thank you in advance, and we hope to see you there!
Date TBD soon. 🙂
Supporting Families in Need at GV
We have recently partnered with a local church group who is interested in working with GV staff to support our school and families.
If you are in need of free children’s clothing, please know that our newly created Free Clothing Exchange will be open on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the gym storage room #1.
Horizon Church will be supporting 15 families with Christmas Hampers. If you are in need of a hamper and not registered with the Christmas Bureau, please leave your contact information with Mr. Dekerf, and he will pass this information on the church group.
Some of our Leadership Students had the opportunity to attend WE Day Vancouver (www.weday.com). It was an amazing experience.
This year, we plan to make a difference in the world by supporting a global and a local issue. Save your quarters and get ready to guess how many candies are in the container (Dec. 7th – Dec. 11th). All money raised will go to support access to Health Care in India. Please support us in our efforts to Scare Hunger and bring nonperishable food to school during the week of Dec. 14th-17th, to support the Surrey Food Bank. Last year we collected 400 pound of food! Please visit http://www.surreyfoodbank.org/donors/top-items to find a list of top 10 most needed items. Did you know that Zinc Saves Lives? Simply send clean batteries that no longer work with your son/daughter to school at your convenience. We will be collecting used batteries all year. Find our more at http://www.zincsaveslives.com/.
