Principal / Vice Principal’s Message

We enjoyed our first week back at school with our GV students, staff and families!   We have all been adjusting to the regular school schedule and working hard to settle into healthy routines.   As always, it is important to ensure that children (and adults) are getting the appropriate amount of sleep each night.  The chart below taken from a Huffingtonpost article, may provide parents with some helpful guidelines.

GV Clothing Exchange

Our GV Clothing Exchange is located in Storage Room # 1 in the Gym.   If you are in need of free clothing for your child,  you are welcome to drop by after school on January 18 or February 15 to browse and select free clothing for your child.  If you have gently used and clean clothing to donate, please contact Ms. Mazur or Mr. Dekerf at the office office @ 604-596-1030.

At Georges Vanier, our assessments will take place later in January and early February.  Please call Mr. Dekerf or Ms. Dhaliwal if you have any questions or concerns.

What is the Foundation Skills Assessment?

All students in Grades 4 and 7 in B.C. take part in the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA), an annual assessment of reading comprehension, writing and numeracy (math skills). The assessments are based on the provincial curriculum and are developed by classroom teachers. The main purpose of the assessment is to help the Ministry of Education, school districts and schools track how well students are learning core academic skills. The information is used by the ministry, the district and by schools in planning for improvement.

The FSA provides a snapshot of how well students have learned important basic skills at a particular point in time. The information is best used together with teacher assessments and other school information.
