Principal / Vice Principal’s Message

Last Thursday we celebrated the joy of music during our Spring Concert!  Students from Kindergarten to grade five, our grade 7 band and many student leaders made us very proud!  A special thank you to our music teacher, Ms. Harris, band teacher, Mr. Bredenholler, and the teacher concert committee for their leadership and dedication to our students and school community.

Our Walk to School Wednesdays continue to be a big success.  We are observing many active students and families walking to school, and fewer vehicles crowding our streets.  Well done GV!

Track & Field season is beginning.  In order to attend the District Track & Field meet at Bear Creek Park on June 7th, we will need 5 parent volunteers.   Please contact the office if you are able to help.

Don’t forget: This Monday is Pyjamas Day and Friday is a Professional Day.

Parent Advisory Council – PAC

This has been a challenging year for our GV PAC, with fewer than three executive members.  We hope to attract interested parents to a PAC meeting on May 13th at 8:45 a.m. to talk more about how you can become more involved in this important parent group.  We really need 5-10 committed parents for our team!

CELEBRATING DIVERSE FAMILIES

As Mother’s Day approaches it’s a good time to celebrate all of the families and caregivers in our school community. Family love comes in lots of different shapes and sizes and it is important to honour all of the supportive people that nurture and care for our children.

The Georges Vanier Learning Commons has a great selection of titles featuring diverse families. The newest addition to our collection,“Stella Brings the Family” by Miriam B. Schiffer celebrates the parents, extended family, friends and neighbours that support one little girl. ‘It is about love, acceptance and the true meaning of family’
