Principal / Vice Principal’s Message

Welcome back to another school year at Georges Vanier!  We look forward to reconnecting with all of our students and families.  GV and District staff have been working hard during the summer – installing new flooring, cleaning the school, registering students, organizing materials, setting up classroom spaces, planning, learning together, and more!

This Week:

Tuesday, Sept. 6: student are in session for one hour only, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  See posted maps and signs which mark grade group entry doors.  Parents are invited to the gym for a casual information session with Mr. Dekerf (Principal) and Mr. Newbold (Acting Vice Principal).

Wednesday, Sept. 7 – 9:  regular hours from 8:35 – 2:25, students are in grade groups and learning about our school-wide “Kindness Counts” theme.  Class assignments will be finalized during during the following week.

New Bell Schedule

The following new bell schedule will be in place for 2016 / 2017

  • 8:30                   Welcome Bell
  • 8:35                   Class Begins
  • 9:55 – 10:10      Recess break outside
  • 11:43                  Lunch break outside
  • 12:05                  Eat Lunch inside
  • 12:25                  Classes resume
  • 2:25                     Dismissal

Nut Aware

For health and safety reasons, we want to remind families that our school is “Nut Aware”.  We have students and staff members with life threatening nut allergies.  Please do not bring nuts or not products to school.

Scent Free

We ask that all GV community members refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes or  other fragrances within our school.  We have staff members who are allergic and sensitive to scents.

 Multi-aged / Combined / Split Classes

As in previous years we will have a number of combined grade classes at Georges Vanier.  We have some research information to share with you on this topic.
