Principal / Vice Principal’s Message
Thanks to many students who shared school learning and leadership initiatives at our recent February Pink Shirt Day assembly this past week. We also had a wonderful surprise visit from RCMP Cst. Paddon!
Learning Commons News
We have been learning about the Tree of Life and it’s importance to the First Nations peoples. Many students finished their ‘cedar’ boxes. To see how we made them and for more photos check out our Cedar Boxes Blog Post.
We celebrated friendship with a fun video. See how we made it on our Video Blog Post.
We decorated cookies in the Learning Commons and 75 students participated. We discussed Random Acts of Kindness and the idea of how an act of sharing a cookie can be a way to make a connection, start a friendship or show appreciation. Check out how we made them on our Cookie Blog Post.
We also spent a lot of time this week learning about hand washing and germs. Check out our Staying Healthy Blog Post.
Walk to School Wednesday
The Social Responsibility Leadership team is promoting the use of active transportation for the daily trip to and from school. Please join us in our efforts to walk or wheel to school (scooter, bicycle) on Walk to School Wednesdays. Our health, safety, and environment benefit, when we walk to school. Walking to school increases our physical activity levels and reduces traffic issues (congestion, emissions). Encourage your child to walk to school (everyday), but especially on Wednesdays!
From 8:15-8:30 on Wednesday mornings members of the Leadership team will be in 3 locations wearing their green shirts. Students who walk to school will be encouraged to go and see them for a stamp. Leaders will be at both crosswalks in the front of the school, and near the Skynet at the back of the school stamping hands of students who walked to school.

Congratulations to our boys and girls basketball teams for each winning our local Newton Play Days at GV this past week. We are so proud of our senior basketball teams for their dedication, great skills and big wins at the Play Days. We are also very grateful to our caring coaches; Mr. Dhaliwal, Ms. Peaker, Ms. Jouzy, Mr. O’Neil, Ms. Lutz, Ms. McDonald!
Div. 11 Learning
Students were challenged to make the longest chain with a partner, using 11 X 17” sized construction paper. They produced some good results in 20 minutes!
