Principal / Vice Principal’s Message

This Monday, May 29th is a Professional Development day and classes are not in session.  Staff will be at GV learning more about Aboriginal Education and planning for next school year.

Teachers will begin early and tentative class organization work for 2017/2018.  It is important that we create balanced classes where we consider the following:  student’s birthdate, gender, strengths, areas for further development, special needs, language skills, behaviour, friendships, social/emotional abilities, personal interests, learning style, previous grade combinations, parental request, etc.

If you wish to make a particular class placement request which describes your child’s program needs (not naming a particular teacher), please submit your request in writing to Mr. Dekerf by June 9th.  Your letter will become part of our class organization criteria.

We look forward to welcoming our incoming Kindergarten students and their families to GV on Thursday morning between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m.

Learning Commons News

Students in Grade 4 created digital images that celebrate the work of younger students in the school. Each student used a background, art work, a frame and their own photo to create a four layer image. Students are developing techniques in masking, editing and photography. Our goal is to help create pride and community by displaying the work that was left on the iPads. Read our blog on how we made these images here

School Fees – continued

Musical Instruments:  Grade 4 students may learn to play the recorder.  Students will have the option of purchasing one through our music teacher for $10.00 or receiving one on loan from the school.   Also, our Grade 7 students who take band either purchase or rent an instrument.  Costs vary depending on the instrument.

Pre-packaged supply service:  Parents have the option of purchasing their child’s school supplies on their own utilizing the grade supply list or for your convenience you may wish to purchase supplies as a package through School Start.  Payment is made directly to School Start.  Costs for supplies vary based on grade.
